Private luxury Bhutan journey · 13 days
Thirteen days. Five valleys. A private luxury journey with time for living culture, countryside walks and the pleasure of staying a little longer.
The journey in one thought
Spend two nights in Thimphu, two in Punakha, two in Phobjikha, three in Bumthang and three in Paro. Living arts, river landscapes and sacred valleys unfold gradually, with enough time to enjoy the places you stay.
Most days centre on one or two thoughtful experiences. A conversation can run long; an afternoon can remain free. There are scenic transfer days, but no one-night stops—and Tiger’s Nest is a choice, not an obligation.
Couples, private families and returning visitors who value comfort, privacy and time to settle into each valley.
Gentle cultural days and adjustable walks, with scenic road transfers and an optional longer Tiger’s Nest hike.
Locally connected and restorative, with unhurried meals, meaningful encounters and afternoons at your chosen lodge.
The story of the journey
Thirteen days allow a journey to breathe. These are the moments that make staying longer worthwhile.

Day by day
This is the intended rhythm. Flight schedules, weather, local arrangements and your energy shape the final plan. Day 7 is a longer road journey; day 10 depends on domestic flight operation.
Paro → Thimphu
Arrive in Paro and travel privately to Thimphu. Settle into your chosen hotel before tea, a short neighbourhood walk or a quiet afternoon at the property. Dinner and the first evening follow your arrival time, not a sightseeing list.
Thimphu
Spend the morning with artists or craftspeople, then explore a market or the capital’s independent shops. Choose one significant cultural visit and a proper lunch. The afternoon is yours for a café, spa or time back at the hotel.
Thimphu → Punakha
Cross Dochula with time to pause before descending towards Punakha. Break the journey for lunch and arrive with the afternoon still ahead. Settle into the countryside and let the warmer valley set a different pace.
Punakha
Choose two experiences that suit the day: the Khamsum countryside walk, a monastery or dzong visit, a farmhouse kitchen or a river picnic. Gentle rafting is an option when conditions and suitability align. Return with time to enjoy your hotel.
Punakha → Phobjikha
Climb gradually into the highlands and arrive in Phobjikha for two nights. Take a short orientation walk if you wish, then settle beside a fire or a valley view. There is no need to fill the evening.
Phobjikha
Visit Gangtey Monastery and follow a selected stretch of the nature trail or village paths. In crane season, observe quietly from a suitable location. Keep the afternoon for reading, photography, a leisurely lunch or time at the lodge.
Phobjikha → Bumthang
This is the longer road day, travelling through central Bhutan with an unrushed lunch and carefully chosen breaks. Arrive in Bumthang for three nights. Unpack, rest and let the evening remain simple; the valley can wait until tomorrow.
Bumthang
Choose one or two of Bumthang’s sacred sites and connect them with a gentle valley walk. A regional lunch or a small producer adds another sense of place. Return to your hotel in the afternoon, with time to reflect rather than rush onwards.
Bumthang · Chhume or Tang
Follow your interests into Chhume or Tang: weaving, countryside food or the heritage of Ogyen Choling. Or stay closer to your hotel for a quieter day. Three nights in Bumthang make that choice possible without another move.
Bumthang → Paro
Take the scheduled flight to Paro when it operates and fits the confirmed plan. Leave the rest of the day open for a long lunch, countryside time or a wellness experience. Flight timing and a realistic contingency are agreed before booking.
Paro
Meet an artisan, explore sacred art or walk through the countryside. Share a meal in a farmhouse or a carefully chosen local restaurant. With three nights in Paro, there is room to follow the day’s small discoveries without watching the clock.
Paro
Choose Tiger’s Nest if the walk matters to you, with a privately paced day and time to recover afterwards. Otherwise, visit Kyichu, take a short forest walk or enjoy wellness at your chosen property. End with a long farewell meal.
Paro → Departure
Enjoy breakfast as your flight time allows, followed by a private airport transfer. After twelve nights without a one-night stop, leave with a sense of the valleys you have lived in—not simply the places you passed through.
Why Raven designed it this way
Two or three nights in each valley let you unpack, return to a favourite view and spend time at your lodge. Thimphu brings living arts; Punakha brings rivers and farms; Phobjikha brings open space; Bumthang brings heritage; Paro brings a gentle ending.
The Bumthang–Paro flight avoids retracing the entire road route when it operates and fits your dates. Raven confirms the schedule and a realistic alternative before booking. A shorter version leaves out Bumthang instead of rushing every valley.

Where you may stay
From characterful boutique properties to leading luxury lodges, the right stay is chosen around your preferred atmosphere, room type and budget. Two or three nights in each valley make the property part of the experience.
Exact properties, room categories, meal plans and upgrades are presented privately after suitability, rate and availability checks.

Questions before you travel

Every valley has at least two nights. Most days focus on one or two experiences, with time for meals, conversation and your lodge. The route still includes transfer days, particularly the longer drive to Bumthang.

No. The domestic flight depends on the operating schedule, available seats and weather. Raven checks it against your dates and agrees the contingency plan before booking; road alternatives can change the timing or length of the journey.
Yes. The private proposal can combine refined boutique properties with higher-tier luxury lodges. Exact hotels, rooms, meal plans and treatments are confirmed after checking suitability, rates and availability.
Raven coordinates visa processing and confirms the applicable Sustainable Development Fee in the proposal. Passport and payment timing are explained before booking.
Yes. A ten-day version can leave out Bumthang and retain a slower pace elsewhere. Extra nights can deepen the wellness, dining or countryside elements instead of adding more daily stops.
