Private luxury Bhutan journey · 7 days
Seven days through Thimphu, Phobjikha, Punakha and Paro—pairing refined stays with living culture, highland nature and Bhutanese wellbeing.
The journey in one thought
This seven-day private journey pairs refined accommodation with living culture, highland nature and restorative time. Each valley has a clear role: Thimphu introduces contemporary Bhutan; Phobjikha slows the pace in the highlands; Punakha brings rivers, sacred places and Raven’s monastery connection; Paro closes with wellbeing and a choice of Tiger’s Nest.
Luxury here is not distance from Bhutan. It is privacy, thoughtful guiding, better pacing, good meals and enough time to let a conversation, treatment or quiet afternoon matter more than another stop.
Couples, solo travellers, friends and private families who want a high-comfort first journey without losing local connection.
Mostly easy to moderate, with the 4 km Gangtey Nature Trail and an optional longer Tiger’s Nest hike.
Refined but grounded—good stays, meaningful encounters, gentle nature and genuine time to recover.
The story of the journey
Each one balances place, people and wellbeing—not just sightseeing.

Day by day
This is the intended rhythm. Weather, road conditions, activity choices and your energy shape the final form of each day.
Paro → Thimphu
Land in Paro and travel privately to Thimphu. According to arrival time, meet young artists or craftspeople, take a short walk through the capital or settle straight into your hotel. Dinner is chosen around your arrival and energy rather than a fixed sightseeing list.
Thimphu → Phobjikha
Choose one morning experience in Thimphu—Buddha Dordenma, the market or a quiet neighbourhood—then cross Dochula towards Phobjikha. The road journey is long, so Raven protects proper breaks and an unhurried arrival. Settle into the lodge and let the valley do the rest.
Phobjikha → Punakha
Follow the Gangtey Nature Trail through pine forest, meadows and farming settlements, with time for tea or lunch and a natural village encounter when possible. Descend to Punakha later in the day. Visit Punakha Dzong only if timing feels comfortable; otherwise keep it for tomorrow.
Punakha
Begin with gentle yoga when arranged. Walk through terraced fields towards Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, or choose a gentler riverside morning. Enjoy a private lunch beside the river, then continue to Neyzergang for tree planting, butter lamps and time with the monastery community. Punakha Dzong fits here when it was not visited yesterday.
Punakha → Paro
Travel to Paro with a proper lunch and selected scenic pauses. Choose a hands-on sand-mandala or another locally rooted art encounter, then settle into the final wellness-focused stay. When included in your confirmed plan, meet a traditional Bhutanese medicine practitioner before leaving the rest of the day to the property, treatment or countryside.
Paro
Hike to Tiger’s Nest if the pilgrimage matters to you, with tea and rest stops at a private pace. After descending, return for the wellness treatment included in your final proposal. If you prefer not to hike, spend the day with Kyichu Lhakhang, rural Paro, traditional medicine, spa, a long lunch or gentle countryside walking.
Paro → Departure
Enjoy breakfast and a calm private airport transfer. The journey ends after one carefully edited week in which comfort creates more time for Bhutan—not distance from it.
Why Raven designed it this way
This journey uses high-quality accommodation to support the day around it: easier arrivals, better recovery, privacy and space to enjoy where you are. The stays should deepen the experience rather than become the experience.
That is why the route still makes room for artists, villages, monasteries, rivers and local food. If a conversation, treatment or long lunch matters more than a secondary stop, the stop can disappear without weakening the journey.

Where you may stay
Raven selects the final properties privately after checking availability, room type, location, service and the character you prefer. The aim is not one hotel brand across Bhutan, but the right stay for each stage of the journey.
Exact properties, room categories, meal plans and included treatments are presented privately after suitability, rate and availability checks.

Optional extensions
Add a second full wellness day in Paro, countryside cycling, a meditation or Buddhist philosophy session, a Phobjikha hot stone bath or a Punakha farmhouse kitchen—only when the extra experience gives the journey more space rather than more volume.
Questions before you travel
The final proposal is personal, but these answers explain how the seven-day framework works.
Both. Refined accommodation creates comfort and recovery, but the journey remains centred on Bhutanese culture, local interaction, nature and spiritual traditions. Luxury supports the experience rather than isolating you from it.
Phobjikha gives the week a completely different rhythm: open highland landscapes, Gangtey Monastery, village life and an easy nature trail. The trade-off is a longer road day from Thimphu, which the itinerary makes explicit rather than disguising.
No. The standard walk is about four kilometres and is generally easy, though sections can be muddy or uneven depending on weather. It can also be shortened.
Yes. Rafting depends on water, weather, confidence and suitability. It can become a long riverside lunch, a gentler river experience or another locally rooted Punakha activity.
No. It is offered as a pilgrimage, not imposed as a requirement. A quieter Paro day can include Kyichu Lhakhang, rural walking, traditional medicine, spa and a long lunch.
Yes. Paro can be extended for a fuller traditional medicine and wellbeing programme, or activity elsewhere can be reduced. Raven adjusts the balance privately rather than adding treatments to an already full schedule.
