Taktshang Cafeteria

Midway up the legendary hike to Tiger's Nest Monastery, Taktshang Cafeteria offers the kind of break every hiker welcomes—a chance to rest, rehydrate, and take in the dramatic view of the monastery perched impossibly high across the valley.

This quiet little stop serves only vegetarian fare. It offers a modest buffet of Bhutanese staples like red rice, seasonal vegetables, and the country's signature ema datshi (chili and cheese). The food is simple but filling, warm enough to comfort you before your final ascent or on your way down.

We recommend the cafeteria only if you're returning late to Paro and planning a delayed lunch. It's a popular pit stop for tourists and pilgrims so it can feel crowded, especially around midday.

Still, the location is hard to beat. Set on a wide ledge framed by pine trees and mountain silence, it offers front-row seats to one of Bhutan's most iconic views.

If your timing allows, sip a cup of tea, soak in the scenery, and let your legs recover. Taktshang Cafeteria may not be a destination, but on this trail, it's a well-placed, well-earned pause.
