Khoma

Khoma Village, a secluded hamlet in Lhuentse district famed for its exquisite weaving tradition, lies in the eastern reaches of Bhutan. The journey requires perseverance—visitors must first take a winding three-hour drive from Lhuentse town, followed by an hour’s hike from the main road, each step deepening their immersion into rural Bhutanese life.

The village resonates with the rhythmic clacking of back strap looms, where skilled artisans transform thread into vibrant textiles. Visitors can observe Khoma’s women as they weave, their hands flying across the looms with hereditary precision. Each tapestry reflects ancient wisdom and artistic heritage, capturing the essence of Bhutanese cultural identity. 

Around the narrow pathways, life unfolds in captivating scenes. Elderly villagers spin prayer wheels and share tales of mountain spirits while children in traditional garb play nearby, their laughter mingling with distant temple chants. The warm Bhutanese spirit of hospitality shines through as locals offer butter tea and engage in welcome conversations.

Khoma’s culinary traditions feature local flavours from ingredients nurtured without chemical fertilizers. Meals served in traditional earthenware showcase locally harvested buckwheat, rice, and garden vegetables.
